For the past several code cycles, the HVACR industry has been navigating a narrow but critical exception in the National Electrical Code (NEC): temporary relief from GFCI protection requirements for outdoor HVAC equipment. That exception adopted in response to widespread nuisance tripping, is scheduled to expire on September 1, 2026.
